What's on Guide Tate Museum in St. Ives

Today, the rest of the group and I went to the Tate museum in St.Ives. We met someone who told us about the Tate museum and its 3 sister museums - Liverpool, Modern and Britain, and then we got to look around the gallery at the art they had on show. The person we met was very informative and gave us a formal talk about everything to do with the Tate galleries, such as what they have on, how often they change their exhibitions and even what sort of projects or events they have running. She also presented each of us with their official What's on Guide, and this basically involves all of what she said. After the talk, we walked around the gallery and looked at the art they currently have exhibited. One of the artists, Lily van der Stokker, particularly interested me because of her unique and fresh style, that to me is something different to what I've seen before. Her art is very childish, naive and innocent and this combination just made her work very attractive to look at.
Here are some facts about the Tate that we gathered on our trip there:
Tate is the only museum in a rural context in the UK.
The whole of Cornwall is the Tate's definition of the wider community.
Most people visit the Tate in the spring and summer.
The department for culture funds the Tate.
There are 4 Tates in total - St. Ives, Liverpool, Britain and Modern.
North London is the storage site where the Tate collections are held.
1979 was when the Barbara Hepworth Museum was set up.
1993 was when the current Tate museum was built.
Patrick Heron made the stained glass window which is the only permanent exhibit at the Tate.
There are 3 exhibitions at the Tate per year.
They shut for 2 weeks between each exhibition.
The aim of Tate St. Ives is to bring international art to Cornwall.
The building is designed to reflect the town of St. Ives.
They create a What's on Guide for each exhibition.
They need 2 year to plan each exhibition.

Change of ideas

I have decided to pursue the Hayle Social Enterprise Project rather than the Tre Project because I feel that the theme and subject matter is very close to that of the Tre Project and it will allow me to work in a group which will allow me to work more effectively and keep within the time frame.

By the end of the week, my targets are to broaden my blog posts about the partners, research the social enterprise trust, come up with ideas for the Hayle project and to finish the proposal form for the Tre Project.

What's on Guide Penwith Radio

Recently the rest of the group and I have visited Penwith Radio as primary research for our What's on Guide. I found the primary research for this organization to be of more help than what the other visits were. This is because when doing secondary research for Penwith Radio, there was a very limited resource of information on their website. However, one of the radio show hosts was very obliged to answer any questions we had. So I asked him as many as I could. The questions I asked are as follows:
Do you do any work experience? If so, what sort of thing do you get them to do?
How did you get involved in this sort of work?
Do you do any community projects? If so, what sort of projects do you do?
How did you get into this sort of work and what advice would you give to someone if they want to be part of the radio industry?
What skills do you need to have to do this job?
Have you worked with colleges before?
Do you work from a script or think on your feet when talking live on air?
Is this the sort of job you look forward to coming to in the mornings?
What is your favourite part of of this job?
If you could change one things about Penwith Radio, what would it be?

Detailed Description of the Tre Project

I have decided that for this Interaction project, the Tre Project is what I would like to do. The Tre Project is an opportunity for people to create a film about home and its relation to Cornwall. The project was created by Awen Productions. Awen Productions is a media production social enterprise based in Cornwall. Awen is the Cornish word for inspiration/muse. The ethos at the heart of awen productions is the creative use of digital media as a tool for positive social change. Their work is about inspiring and empowering communities by telling stories. The project is about using archive footage and new digital content together to make film that describes home. An idea that I have developed so far is a film about my dad's connection with Cornwall. Out of my whole family, my dad has the most connection with Cornwall and I think I could make quite an interesting video about how he is connected with the south west.

Ideas for Tre Project

The ideas I have so far for the Tre Project are to do with my dad's upbringing. In my family, he has the most connection with Cornwall and I feel that I could probably make a better film if it were to do with his connection with Cornwall than had it been mine.

Targets

By the end of the day, my targets are to decide what it is I want the film to be about for the Tre Project, where I want to make my film and to add more detail to my blog posts about the trips I have been on. By the end of the week my targets are to blog about partners and the research the Tre Project.

Interaction with the Tre Project

Recently the rest of the media group and I were visited by a representative of the Tre Project. She explained what the Tre Project was and what she asks of us if we get involved. The Tre Project is an oppurtunity for us to make a short film on what home is, or more specifically, what parts of Cornwall make us feel at home. She would also like us to try and include archive footage within our ideas; either in the actual video, or as inspiration for the video. She also had some archive footage that she showed us and a video that was already made for the project just to give us an idea of what sort of ting she wants us to do.

Interaction with the Hayle Social Enterprise Trust

Recently the rest of the group and I watched a presentation from a group who plan on building a museum/cinema in the Hayle community. The project intends to bring the community together and reveal to them the rich history that Hayle has through the museum part of the structure. There will also be a cinema above the museum that will be there to give a better source of entertainment for the community too. The group have asked us to help promote the project by producing marketing products to encourage the community to get involved with the build. I think this is definitely a good opportunity for an Interaction project and one that I will certainly consider doing as it ticks all the boxes for this project's criteria.

What's on Guide Golowan and Exchange Research

Today the rest of the group and I went to both the office of Golowan Festival and also The Exchange gallery. Both of which were visits where, although we did not gain much information, we still gained some that is not on their websites. The information we gained included things such as how the festival of Golowan is very much a community based festival and they heavily rely on the community for their success. This proves that primary research can be of benefit, however, I do feel that not enough was learned to it make significantly better than the secondary research.

What's on Guide Penlee and Acorn Research

As part of the research for the What's on Guide, the rest of the class and I went to both Penlee House gallery and the Acorn theater to get information on what goes on at the two venues. At Penlee House gallery we found out that they put on exhibitions of various artists' work over a short period of time and then change the exclusive artwork to someone else. At the Acorn theater, they gave thorough information about what goes on, from music gigs to theater performances and they also talked briefly about what shows are coming up in the near future. Both visits indeed helped with the research for this project.
